Description:
With a casual look, this print may look simplistic, but it's not. It's very difficult for a printer to get such a solid, uniform, opaque covering over a wide area. There are 2 different whites at play in this print. Most of it is the unprinted paper showing through, but there is also a white highlight block that was printed in a bright opaque white over the black background. In addition, there is a dark gray shadow block utilized.
The personal seal of the publisher (Kiyoomi Shinagawa) has been applied just below the artist's seal.
I believe that the horse prints from Kyoto Hanga-In are priced in the marketplace much lower than their intrinsic value. This print is a bargain!
Condition:
(3.0 / 5.0) - Lightly toned. Some barely noticeable rubbing near the upper left corner. Hard vertical fold about 3.5 inches in from the right side, mostly flattened out, but still weak.
