Artist:
Yoshida Hiroshi (1876-1950)
Description:
I've always marveled at Yoshida Hiroshi's renderings of reflections in the water. This is a great example of his mastery of that.
Because of the margin trimming and fading, this can't be considered a collectible print. Its value is decorative. I wouldn't feel bad if this print were framed and hung on someone's wall.
Early printings of his designs are identifiable by 2 criteria, the jizuri seal in the margin and the brushed signature. This print has got the brushed signature, so I'm comfortable calling it an early edition.
Class:
shin hanga landscape print
Image Size:
24.6 x 37.2 cm (9.7 x 14.6 inches)
Published Date:
1930. Not necessarily the date that this copy was printed.
Keywords:
boat, female figure, male figure, street scene, water
Condition:
(2.0 / 5.0) - The margins have been trimmed off, slightly into the image on a couple of sides. The trimmed edges were in direct contact with a wooden frame, and have therefore become toasted from the acidity. The color is a bit faded.
